The best place in Ontario to watch the Spring Hawk Migration is right here in Grimsby at the Beamer Memorial Conservation Area. It is the juncture of geography around Grimsby that focuses the hawk flight for us to enjoy. The Niagara Peninsula Hawkwatch has been going for 50 plus years which counts migrating raptors for 75 days each spring contributing to the tremendously important data collected. Look up and introduce yourself to a whole new world.
An experienced hawk watcher, Bruce Mackenzie, will illustrate the different types of hawks and how our unique geography affects their flight pattern. Bruce is an award-winning naturalist who has been observing migrating hawks in Ontario for 45 years. He enjoys bringing the story of raptors, hawks, falcons, eagles and vultures to others. Bruce was one of the founding directors of the Niagara Peninsula Hawkwatch and is a past president of the Hamilton Naturalists Club. His passion lately has been looking after the Grimsby Wetlands.
