Participants will explore art-making through an environmentally conscious lens, creatively considering recycled materials and proper material disposal as a core responsibility in the role of an artist. Through projects touching on collage, mixed-materials, and environmental activism, budding artists get to expand their imagination and artistic abilities in a way that benefits both themselves and the planet.

Lead by St. Catharines based interdisciplinary artist Amber Lee Williams, participants will have the opportunity to try several approaches to shooting Polaroid images and will be shown the fascinating step-by-step process of how to extract the emulsion lift layer from the Polaroid and transfer it onto a sheet of watercolour paper. Each participant will go home with 3-4 finished Polaroid emulsion lifts.

The total Solar Eclipse will be visible in Canada for the first time since 1979. It will take place on Monday April 8, 2024. Join us as the GHS welcomes John Holbourne to the April Speaker Series as he presents "Indigenous Trails That Traverse North America". The presentation includes the history of how trade goods moved through ancient pathways, trading patterns in the Grimsby area and how current trails reflect those patterns. Beamer Trail and how the master plan for trails affects our local trails will also be discussed.
John is a long-term members of the Grimsby Historical Society and currently resides at the entry to Beamer Trail, on the site of a grist mill and a saw mill. His work on the trail has been ongoing, specifically in the wetland areas - concentrating on drainage and rehydrating the land.
